Prof. Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) in Benin, Edo State, has announced the release of the results of the 2022 in-school May/June National Business Certificate/National Technical Certificate (NBC/NTC) examinations.
Announcing the result, Registrar/Chief Executive, NABTEB, Prof. (Mrs.) Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the 2022 May/June NABTEB examination results in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
According to the registrar, 58,659 of the 84,147 candidates obtained five credits or more, including Mathematics and English Language, representing 69.60 per cent.
Isiugo-Abanihe further disclosed that 75,221 candidates obtained five credits or above, with or without English Language and Mathematics, accounting for 89.39 per cent of the total.
She stated that performance in the May/June 2022 examinations was slightly worse than in 2021, with 300 candidates found to be involved in examination misconduct.
The registrar/chief executive, who was represented by NABTEB’s Director, Examinations Administration, Obinna Opara, said that 84,147 applicants enrolled for the exams, but only 83,504 of them took them in 1,696 centres across Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire.
She stated that the emphasis should now be placed on the acquisition of employable skills that are relevant to the needs of the industry in the twenty-first century, emphasising that traditional learning had fallen short of providing students with the knowledge needed to thrive in today’s innovation-driven economy.
Isiugo-Abanihe advocated for the overhaul of all federal and technical colleges in terms of material and human resource availability.
The registrar/CEO asked the Federal Government to strengthen the link between technical/vocational education and the labour market, which she believes should be represented in the country’s national development objectives and education sector plans, with a significant budget for TVET.
