The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has approved the study of medicine and surgery at the Rivers State University.
The council granted the accreditation after its visit to the institution.
The council also increased the admission quota for the medical college from 50 to 100.
This was disclosed by the vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt.
The VC said “I’m happy to inform you that those on an accreditation visit in the medical and dental council of Nigeria between 30th of March and 31st of March 2021 at the college of medical sciences have given approval al for the training of medical students for the MBBS program.
“In addition, the council also approved the increase of admission quota for 50 to 100”.
“I like to say that this is rare feet for a new medical college and it is in recognition of the enormous infrastructural facilities and personnel engagement done by the Rivers state government “
