The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is an internationally recognized Nigerian university located in Akoka, Lagos State. The university was established in 1962 and is one of Nigeria’s five first-generation institutions of higher learning. There are now three campuses in Lagos’ mainland. While two of its campuses—the main campus in Akoka and the recently established site at the former School of Radiography—are in Yaba, the college’s college of medicine is in Idi-Araba, Surulere. With 802 acres of land, its main campus is largely encircled by the Lagos lagoon. In terms of admissions, UNILAG continues to be one of the most competitive institutions in the nation.

The National Universities Commission (NUC), a government agency in Nigeria, has formally accredited and/or recognized the University of Lagos.
